ECP’s “The Biblioburro” Book Distribution

One Endeavor’s school priorities is fostering the love of reading for students. Multiple studies have shown that  addition to increasing intellectual prowess and expanding vocabulary, reading also

educates the imagination, “kindling the spirit of creativity in every human heart” (Jago, 2010). And reading fiction, in particular, expands the heart, making us more compassionate (Oatley, 2014).

Each month, ECP will be providing take home book bags for students. We are calling it the “Biblioburro”, based on a real life traveling library in Columbia delivering books to patrons on the backs of 2 donkeys. Our Biblioburro will be held at ECP every month. Students and families will be able to come to ECP get a set of 3-5 books in a bag to take home. The next month, you will return the previous month’s books to get new books to take home! Students will be provided with books at their level to support with reading independently at home. Students are also encouraged to research and share new books they are interested in reading and would like to take home with them!

If you would like to learn more about the real Biblioburro go here or even hear a read aloud of the Biblioburro picture book by Monica Brown, go here.
